Online Stuttering Therapy (Teletherapy)

The online stuttering therapy for adolescents and adults (beginning at the age of 13) takes place completely from home and is based on a mix of group and individual therapy sessions in combination with speech software training.

Online Stuttering Therapy Building Blocks

We work with these building blocks in our adolescent and adult online therapy:

Soft Speaking

Our therapy is based on the speech restructuring approach (formerly known as fluency shaping). You will learn a new speaking pattern that will enable you to control your speech and consciously speak more fluently. This speech pattern consists of soft vocal onsets and ties between syllables and words. You will also learn to use your speaking speed, pauses, intelligibility and volume more consciously.

Speech exercises and video analysis

In our therapy we do a lot of speaking exercises and games so that this new knowledge is experienced in many different ways and settles in. We use audio and video analytics to assist and support the training, including perception exercises, relaxation training or breathing exercises as well.

Biofeedback method

In order to learn how to speak softly at first and then train it further on, we work with “KST Flunatic”. This web-based practice software plots the voice as a curve, giving you visual feedback on soft onset and other aspects of speaking.

Reduction of avoidance behavior – in-vivo training

Our central goal is that you can face any and all communication situations again – without fear or loss of control. We start with the first exercises in the intensive phase in order to try out the soft, more fluent speech in different speech situations. We make phone calls, practice presentations, ask questions in shops or have lively discussions. This so-called “transfer work” accompanies you throughout the entire therapy period.

Group work – exchange of experiences

We made a conscious decision to carry out the therapy in a group, as this gives everybody the opportunity for the important exchange with other affected people. Learning as a group leads to better results. The resulting group dynamic helps everybody to stay on topic together.

Inclusion of relatives

We strongly recommend to make the people close to you a part of your online therapy. If possible, involve them directly in the therapy by informing relatives and friends about your therapy progress, for example by telephone.

Teletherapy with online follow-up

Therapy Start

This therapy starts with an intensive phase. You should take one to two weeks off to cover the intense work and tasks at the beginning of the online sessions. In the first week we work 4-6 hours on 4 consecutive days. The weekend is usually free. In the second week we also work 1.5-4 hours on 4 following days. In weeks three and four you can expect 2-3 sessions of 1.5 hours each per week.

Therapie Refresher

After the first four weeks, a 60-120 minute session takes place once a week, and then every 2 weeks for the following months.

Course of therapy

The sessions will go on for the next 10 months. These are organized mainly as group sessions. In the intensive phase, you will be looked after by 3 therapists who you get to know well. After that, other therapists can also be assigned to your sessions intentionally – this offers new input and exchange. After the 10 months the therapy is complete.

Upon request you can continue with individual sessions with your therapist and/or purchase a prolongation of your KST Flunatic licence.

What our clients say…

We had a therapist who was affected himself. This deep understanding on the one hand and on the other hand being shown a way how it works, that helped me extremely.

Mark S.

I didn’t really know what to expect, but I’m glad I went through with it.

Alexander S.

Even though it was really exhausting, it was worth the effort. I can now control my stuttering much better and participate in life like everyone else.

Alexandra W.

The intensive course was really intensive and you immediately notice that there is a proven concept behind it that works. I have never made so much progress so quickly in my life.
